What is the Alliance for Parking Data Standards?

Formed by the BPA, The International Parking and Mobility Institute and the European Parking Association, APDS integrates the International Parking Industry Payment Standards (IPIPS) which was developed by the EPA and is already available, and the Data Exchange Standards (IPI-DataEx), developed by IPMI.

The IPIPS protocols ensure interoperability and help simplify the complex world of e-payments in parking. APDS covers the full range of parking data elements, including parking location information and transactions, pricing, and occupancy/utilization.

What are the benefits?

APDS establishes a common language for data elements and definitions in the parking, transportation, and mobility sector that helps to facilitate seamless integration, compatibility, and communication between parking entities, the automotive industry, IT developers, map and app providers, as well as other stakeholders.

As part of the National Parking Platform, APDS significantly reduces procurement costs for tech suppliers and local authorities by simplifying the process of becoming approved providers enabling local authorities to access pre-approved and vetted services.

Consumers benefit from being able to easily make payments for parking services through a single payment method.

What’s been done so far?

  • APDS has now been formally adopted as an ISO standard
  • APDS integrates with the Department for Transport National Parking Platform.
