Benefits of the Safer Parking Scheme

Benefits

The Safer Parking Scheme really works

Vehicle related theft fell from 17% of all crime in 2004/05 to 12% in 2012/13 but it has shown a gradual rise since then of 13% in 2014/15 and 15% in 2017/18.

Vehicle related crime in non-work car parks has fallen from 16% in 2004/05 to 8% in 2014/15 and 5% in 2017/2018.  Despite the general rise in vehicle related crime, car parks are still safer than the street.

It makes commercial sense that anything you can do to reduce crime and make people feel safer in your parking area will benefit your operation.

Even if your facilities do not experience vehicle related crime, creating an environment where customers feel safe will ensure their repeat custom. Also, displaying a nationally recognised award will help to benchmark your parking facility.

What our Award holders say about the scheme:

“It makes us aware of the important requirements”; "Keep going, been excellent”; “Run really well as it stands”;  "We believe it gives people trust in our car parks and their standard and brings people to us. On the other hand, when things go wrong then the reaction is 'I thought this car park had a Park Mark award?!'  But it's good that they hold us to a higher standard and most of the time I believe we meet those high standards."

Having Park Mark is no guarantee that a crime will not occur, but the risk assessment ensures that the criteria are in place and as such, any incidents are kept to the absolute minimum.
